Simple rule of thumb.

All Illinois politicians are corrupt.

Every. Last. Stinking. One. Of. Them.

Someone from Illinois you like? Corrupt. I don't know why people ever think otherwise. Unless you know of some Chicago ward boss somewhere going off on a rant about how that can't do business with whoever you're thinking about paying attention, your politician is at best, willing to lay down with dogs and trust that people don't mind the fleas so much.

Exceptions? Sure, there were exceptions, but they're dead. For a Republican example, there's Everett Dirksen. The Democratic example is, of course, obvious. Paul Simon, a man so clean Chicago politicians never approached him to try and corrupt him, because they would burst into flame in his presence.

Seriously, way liberal, but a helluva guy.

Everyone else is crooked. Point this out to them, and they will either try to change the subject to the fact that they can deliver, or get seriously indignant. The former are basically admitting they can be bought, and are simply claiming to be a good value for the dollar. The latter are protesting way too much.

Which reminds me, I keep meaning to go, but never get around to it.

Really?

This line, at the end of a story about whether or not Congressional Democrats are trying to kill the D.C. school choice program, would be great if true:
"There is no such thing as a permanent program," said Brendan Daly, a top aide to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif. "Every program needs to be authorized or re-authorized."
Somebody's right and somebody's wrong. Nancy Pelosi's spokesman or Milton Friedman.

Call it a tossup.

Can we kill off Peter now?

Hayden Panettiere breaks up with Milo Ventimiglia.

Actors who play essential characters should not be allowed to date actors on the same show whose characters have worn out their welcome. It should be part of all standard TV contracts.

Kill me now

One of my co-workers mentions Run-DMC at lunch today.

27-year old other co-worker: Who?

A review of Monday's episode of Chuck on NBC

OK, so I turned in to watch Monday's episode of Chuck, and it seemed a little different. I don't know if they've changed the show's direction or something, it just seemed a little...off.

Let's start with Chuck himself. He seemed different somehow. I mean the basics were there - a guy thrust into a situation he's not really ready for, and he tries to coast by on brains and charm.

Last week...

This week...

All I'm saying is Zachary Levi looks a bit different this week, is all. Maybe it's just my TV.

The plot was like Chuck usually is - there's some giant threat to America, and for some reason, in a nation of 300 million, the only guy who can save us is this one kinda dorky guy. This week's villain is "the failed policies of the previous eight years," or something nearly as cumberson, but apparently whoever FP8 (as I'll call him for short), has a big plan to ruin the economy. (It's not blow up the city or assassinating a rock star, but there's only so many times you can run with that plot before it gets repetitive.) Fortunately, that thing in Chuck's brain that lets him flash on all the answers has given him a solution, he just has to sneak past all FP8's henchmen. (Referred to as "Republicans," which is a much easier name than FP8.)

Of course, Chuck has help. There's Casey, the badass agent who's willing to break all the rules himself to help preserve order for the rest of us.

Yeah, wouldn't want to mess with that guy.

Anyway, the episode ended on kind of a cliffhanger, but not really, since we all knew that Chuck's big plan had pretty much no way of failing, but they did a good job of making it look dramatic at least.

I do have one serious criticism, though. Apparently they've recast the role of Sarah.

Not cool, NBC. Not cool.
